Looking for a short photography trip that takes you somewhere completely different? Kathmandu Valley offers an incredible mix of ancient architecture, local traditions, colourful streets and everyday life, making it an ideal destination for photographers.
Known for its rich religious and cultural heritage, Kathmandu Valley is made up of three historic cities: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. Each has its own character, traditions and architectural style. From busy market streets and centuries-old courtyards to quiet temples and traditional neighbourhoods, there is always something interesting to capture.
The Kathmandu Photography Tour by Prawaha Tours is designed around some of the valley’s most rewarding locations for photography. The journey includes UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites, historic temples, Buddhist stupas, former royal squares and traditional settlements.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu
On arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Prawaha Tours and Travels will meet you and welcome you to Nepal. You can easily identify our representative by the Prawaha signboard. From the airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle.
After checking in and taking some time to freshen up, we’ll have a short briefing about your photography tour. We’ll discuss the itinerary, important timings, and other useful details for the journey ahead. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax, explore the surrounding area, or simply recover from your flight.

Day 2 Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath
After breakfast, begin your photography tour at Kathmandu Durbar Square, where ancient temples, historic courtyards, traditional architecture and lively streets offer plenty of subjects to capture. After lunch, continue to Swayambhunath Stupa, one of Kathmandu Valley’s most important Buddhist and Hindu sites. From the hilltop, enjoy wide views across Kathmandu while photographing the stupa, colourful prayer flags, shrines and surrounding activity. The resident monkeys also provide interesting opportunities for spontaneous photography.

Day 3 Pashupatinath and Boudhanath
Today, explore two of Kathmandu’s most important religious landmarks. Begin at Pashupatinath Temple, photographing its ancient temples, shrines, sadhus and the surroundings along the Bagmati River. After lunch, visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal. Capture monks and pilgrims during their evening kora, along with prayer flags, monasteries and the lively streets around the stupa. The rooftop cafés nearby also offer a relaxed place to enjoy the atmosphere.

Day 4 Thimi and Bhaktapur
Today, drive towards Bhaktapur with a stop in the traditional Newari town of Thimi. Photograph its historic temples, old courtyards and local pottery workshops, where artisans shape clay into everyday vessels. Continue to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, intricate woodwork, temples and quiet alleyways. Capture highlights such as the Golden Gate, 55-Window Palace and Nyatapola Temple while exploring the surrounding squares and streets filled with traditional Newari life.

Day 5 Changu Narayan and Nagarkot
Start the morning with some photography around Bhaktapur’s old streets before heading to Changu Narayan Temple, one of Nepal’s oldest temples and an important example of Licchavi-era art and architecture. Explore its pagoda-style temple, ancient sculptures and historic stone inscriptions. Later, travel to Nagarkot, a peaceful hilltop destination overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. If the weather is clear, capture spectacular Himalayan views and finish the day photographing the changing colours of the mountains during sunset.

Day 6 Nagarkot, Khokana, Bungmati and Patan
Begin the day at Nagarkot View Tower for sunrise and, weather permitting, beautiful Himalayan views. Return to Kathmandu for a short photo review with your lead photographer. Later, explore the traditional Newari villages of Khokana and Bungmati, photographing local life, temples, crafts and historic streets. In the evening, continue to Patan Durbar Square, a remarkable centre of Newari art and architecture. Explore its ancient temples, statues and courtyards, including Krishna Mandir and Bhimsen Temple.

Day 7 Farewell and Departure
Your photography tour comes to an end today. After breakfast, our team will arrange your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport in time for your onward flight.
